Avoid immigration / notario fraud
/Many of our clients and many people in the Seattle area and throughout the U.S. have been victims of immigration fraud. A person must be a licensed attorney, admitted to a state bar in the U.S. in order to help you with immigration matters. The most common cases of fraud include a “notario” posing as an immigration expert or attorney and taking money to help you complete your immigration paperwork, or an immigration attorney taking payment and then never completing the work.
A notario is NOT an attorney. A licensed attorney will be able to show his/her bar number and/or bar card. On the other hand, a notario does not have the authority or the capability of properly assessing your immigration situation. To search for an attorney to ensure he/she is licensed and in good standing in Washington state, see here: https://www.mywsba.org/LawyerDirectory.aspx
Because an immigration attorney only has to be licensed in any of the states in the U.S. and not necessarily the state he/she lives in, you can ask the attorney which state he/she is licensed in, and search the state’s bar directory accordingly.
